Sachin + Babi Ahluwalia have been hopping from trunk sale to trunk sale around the country for the past few months. The major lesson learned on their travels was that everyone seems to respond positively to color. The Resort 2012 collection is much brighter then their previous Fall outgoing. For their Resort collection there has been a great emphasis on color and texture. In this collection vibrant colors are mixed and matched with fabrics such as suede, leather and knit. Sachin + Babi have captured elegance but also gives just the right amount of edge for any woman.
Sachin + Babi’s genius does not stop at color and texture. They have translated Rorschach inkblots into amazing designs for clothing and accessories. Just like the clothing, the jewelry mixes and matches textures, materials and colors. Amazing earring, necklaces, and cuffs come in glossy silver and enameled green that will make any fashion forward gal turn her head.
On another important note the first ever Sachin + Babi bags makes their debut in the Resort 2012 collection. Bags come Color blocked, striped, Rorschach-ed and embroidered.
Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia are the co-founders and Presidents of “Sachin+ Babi”, a two and a half year old fashion collection, borne of their existing companies, ANK Embroideries, (under which they design and manufacture designer and couture embroideries for some of the biggest fashion houses) and ANKASA (the 5 year old luxury home furnishings brand).
“My wife and partner, Babi, and I decided to launch our own RTW brand to bring couture products to the contemporary girl.”
The designers enjoy working with the wide range of materials and production capabilities of their Bombay factory. The Ahluwalia’s have directed their focus to surface textures, interesting combinations of fabrics, fabric manipulations and modern silhouettes. They combine what is chic and classic with what is edgy and trend driven.
“Through our experiences in India and New York, we are able to translate embroideries and surface texture in a very different, modern way. It is a fusion of old world techniques and modern sensibility.
In only a few years the collection is sold in over 300 doors around the world, including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Holt Renfrew. The collection continues to grow and evolve and is coveted by many fashionista’s around the globe.
